How Would Jesus Vote?

As the US election comes to a head tomorrow, I have been reflecting on how I was raised as a Christian and how I was taught that I should vote.

Christians are traditionally socially conservative and vote that way as well.

Fiscal conservatism and the economy also often rate highly for many Christian voters.

The odd part about all of this is that Jesus never prioritized economics or upholding a strict moral standard for the social community.

Instead, Jesus said this:

“‘For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me…’

“And the King answered them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”

Matthew 25:35-36, 40 (ESV)

Jesus prioritized helping the poor, the overworked, the immigrant, the homeless, and the felon before the rich, the powerful, the business, and even other Christians.

Jesus called us to care more about the destitute than we care for ourselves.

So the real question is this:

Does our vote line up with Jesus’ priorities?
